The Center for Sensing to Intelligence (S2I) at Caltech is pleased to announce a call for proposals seeking seed funding for early-stage research projects. This call will prioritize proposals that address significant challenges and opportunities associated with human health, climate change, and intelligent systems for scientific discoveries via new sensing/imaging technologies, and/or new computational and mathematical approaches for extracting actionable information from large or noisy datasets. S2I is very interested in receiving collaborative proposals seeking support for activities that take a holistic co-design approach between adaptive sensing, information recovery, prediction and action.
Frequency: First-time opportunity
Total Award: $80,000

Up to $80,000 over a period of 18 months.
- Tuition rate is 66%.
- No PI salary is allowed.
Indirect Costs: Not Allowed
- A signed DAF is required.

- Only one submission is allowed per lead PI.
Research Areas of Interest:

Proposals may seek support for fundamentally new or existing research projects that are taking a new direction.

The overall intellectual strength of the proposal and its alignment with the S2I's general mission.

Whether the project is a cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The qualifications of the investigator(s).

Proposals should include:
- A cover page: proposal title, PI(s) name(s) and project summary (50 words max);
- Technical narrative (2 pages max in a readable font, inclusive of figures);
- Project budget (up to $80K over a period of 18 months; tuition rate 66%; no overhead; no PI salary);
- Current funding related to the proposed project; and
- Signed Division Approval Form.
