Funding Agency: Caltech; The Kavli Foundation

External Deadline(s):

01/12/2024 01:00 PM PST (Full Proposal)

Cognizant Office: Strategy Implementation

Description:

In 2016, the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellows Program (PPFP) was established at Caltech to increase the number of historically underrepresented minority faculty in STEM fields by providing support for a more diverse and inclusive postdoctoral community. Fellows receive stipends, mentoring, and services that build community and foster professional development. The Presidential Postdoctoral Fellows program builds and expands on the highly successful California Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP). In 2023, with support from The Kavli Foundation, Caltech established the Kavli-Caltech Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship. Embedded within the broader PPFP, this fellowship provides full salary support for fellows working in nanoscience with faculty affiliates of the Kavli Nanoscience Institute.

Frequency: Typically offered multiple times per year

Total Award: $90,000 to $180,000

  • Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship: Fellows will receive up to $90,000 in funding ($45,000/year for two years) for salary and benefits. Remaining funding will be provided by a combination of advisor support and/or external fellowship. Fellows who receive external fellowships covering their full salary and benefits will be provided with $5,000 for research and relocation allowance. Health insurance benefits will be covered if not provided for by an external fellowship.
  • Kavli-Caltech Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship: Fellows will receive $180,000 in funding ($90,000/year for two years) to cover salary and benefits.
